Project Overview
Location: Steyning, West Sussex
Scope: Complete driveway replacement and resurfacing
Surface System: Full excavation with partial overlay, Vuba resin bound surfacing in Sagrada Familia
Size: 78m²
A driveway that had reached the end of its life
The existing driveway was constructed from ageing concrete which had become tired and dated over the years. While still functional, the surface lacked kerb appeal and included a set of concrete steps that interrupted the flow of the driveway.
One of the biggest challenges became clear as soon as excavation began. The concrete was significantly thicker than expected, making removal far more demanding than a standard driveway replacement.
The homeowners wanted a driveway that:
- Enhanced the appearance of the property
- Required minimal ongoing maintenance
- Improved access and usability
- Complemented the surrounding landscaping
- Delivered a clean, modern finish
Breaking out the old driveway
The project began with the removal of the existing concrete driveway and redundant steps.
Due to the exceptional thickness of the original concrete, excavation took considerably longer than a typical installation. Our team carefully broke out and removed the material before preparing the area for reconstruction.
Once excavation was complete, the driveway was rebuilt to provide a strong and durable foundation ready for its new resin bound surface.
Creating structure and definition
To improve the overall appearance of the frontage, timber sleepers were installed along the left-hand side of the driveway to retain the raised garden area.
This created a much cleaner transition between the planting beds and driveway while providing a practical retaining solution for the sloping garden.
The existing concrete section directly in front of the garage remained structurally sound, allowing us to carry out a partial overlay in this area rather than full excavation. This approach reduced unnecessary waste while still achieving a seamless finished appearance across the entire driveway.
The resin bound installation
With the groundwork complete, we installed a premium resin bound surface using Sagrada Familia by Vuba.
This popular blend was selected for its warm, light tones, which brighten the frontage and complement the property’s brickwork and surrounding landscaping beautifully.
The finished surface provides:
- A smooth and attractive finish
- Excellent permeability
- Low ongoing maintenance
- Long-term durability
- Improved kerb appeal
As a Vuba Elite Installer, Cherry Home Improvements ensures every resin installation is completed using premium materials and proven installation methods.
The final result
The transformation has completely changed the appearance of the property.
What was once an ageing concrete driveway is now a bright, welcoming entrance that feels larger, cleaner and far more in keeping with the home. The removal of the steps has improved usability, while the new sleeper border creates a neat and defined edge to the front garden.
The Sagrada Familia resin bound finish delivers a contemporary look whilst retaining a timeless appearance that suits the property’s character perfectly.
